Mike Hernández is a Partner with LSN Communications. He has over 15 years of experience, expertise, and knowledge in the Communications field. His focus areas are corporate and political messaging, crisis communication management, and communications. Mike is also the on-air political analyst for WSCV Telemundo 51, the top-rated South Florida news program, and its sister station WTVJ NBC 6.

Mike is a proven leader in the Communications industry, including public and private sector entities. Most recently, before joining LSN, Mike was the Senior Vice President at Mercury, a prominent, nationally recognized political and communications consulting firm. During the 2020 election cycle, Mike spent countless hours on television providing live analysis of the U.S. Presidential and Congressional elections. During the 2018 elections, Mike served as a strategist and communication consultant for two victorious Congressional candidates. Simultaneously, Mike provided communication consulting and media relations services for clients involved in two of the most televised and discussed local disasters.

Before entering the private sector, Mike served as Senior Advisor and Communications Director for Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. Mike’s extensive experience helped him deliver an exceptional communications operation for the Mayor while concurrently overseeing the 200-employee Miami-Dade County Department of Communications, the 311 Contact Center, the Aviation Department, the Port of Miami, and the Water & Sewer Department. In addition, he had direct oversight of an annual budget of $21 million.

Mike became well-known as a seasoned public relations and public affairs operative before joining Mayor Gimenez. Mike was the Senior Director for Governmental Relations and Public Affairs at Penn Schoen Berland, a global research consultancy. In this position, he worked throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, and Europe and provided strategic consulting to the heads of state and presidential and parliamentary candidates. Also, Mike worked closely on campaigns in Panama from 2011-2014 and Iraq in early 2014.

In 2008 Mike joined President Barack Obama’s team to boost the efforts of the Hispanic media messaging. He also served as an on-air surrogate for President Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012. His work primarily aired on Spanish-language television and radio in battleground states.

A proud Panther, Mike earned two degrees at Florida International University in Miami — a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He served as the President of the Alumni Association from 2019-2021 and is an adjunct professor in the University’s College of Communication and School of International and Public Affairs. In January 2023, Mike was named President of the Hispanic Public Relations Association, Miami Chapter, and a member of the Friends of WLRN advisory board. Mike lives in Pembroke Pines, Florida, and enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and working out.
