Mike Hernández is a Partner with LSN Communications. He has over 15 years of experience, expertise, and knowledge in the Communications field. His areas of focus are corporate and political messaging, crisis communication management and communications. Mike is also an on-air political analyst for WSCV Telemundo 51, a top-rated South Florida Spanish language news program.
Mike is a proven leader in the Communications industry, including both public and private sector entities. Most recently, prior to joining LSN, Mike was the Senior Vice President at Mercury, a prominent nationally recognized political and communications consulting firm. During the 2020 election cycle, Mike spent countless hours on television providing a live analysis on the U.S. Presidential and Congressional elections. During the 2018 elections, Mike served as a strategist and communication consultant for two victorious Congressional candidates. Simultaneously, Mike provided communication consulting and media relations services for clients involved in two of the most televised and discussed local disasters.
Before entering the private sector, Mike served as Senior Advisor and Director of Communications for Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. Mike’s extensive experience helped him deliver an exceptional communications operation for the Mayor while concurrently overseeing the 200-employee Miami-Dade County Department of Communications, the 311 Contact Center, the Aviation Department, Port of Miami, and the Water & Sewer Department. He had direct oversight of an annual budget of $21 million.
Mike became well known as a seasoned public relations and public affairs operative far before joining Mayor Gimenez. Mike was the Senior Director for Governmental Relations and Public Affairs at Penn Schoen Berland, a global research consultancy. In this position, he worked throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, Middle East, and Europe and provided strategic consulting to the heads of state, presidential and parliamentary candidates. Mike worked closely on campaigns in Panama from 2011-2014 and in Iraq in early 2014.
In 2008 Mike joined President Barack Obama’s team to boost the efforts of the Hispanic media messaging. He also served as an on-air surrogate for President Obama’s re-election campaign in 2012. His work was aired mostly on Spanish-language television and radio in battleground states.
A proud Panther, Mike earned two degrees at Florida International University in Miami — a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. He currently serves as the President of the Alumni Association and an adjunct professor in the University’s College of Communication and School of International and Public Affairs. Mike lives in Pembroke Pines, Florida, and enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and working out.
