New York company to manage Miami International Airport Hotel

One of the largest hotel owner/operators in the United States will assume management of the Miami International Airport Hotel on June 1.

The Miami-Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) awarded a seven-year contract with a three-year option to renew to MCR Investors LLC last month. The New York City-based company is taking over the contract from Tampa-based H.I. Development Corp.

This week, H.I. Development Corp. filed a Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notice for the 88 employees at the hotel. WARN Act filings usually mean layoffs, but MCR confirmed this week that it would hire all of the workers at the MIA Hotel, as recommended by MDAD.

The hotel at Miami International Airport’s Concourse E is MCR’s first contract with Miami-Dade County. MCR manages 82 hotels in 21 states and $321 million in gross revenues in 2016. It’s billed as the seventh-largest hotel owner-operator in the U.S. and its properties include the 512-room TWA Hotel currently under development at JFK International Airport and The High Line Hotel in New York City’s Manhattan.

“Going forward we plan to manage the MIA Hotel with a focus on guest service and partnership with the Miami Airport community,” said William White, director of MCR’s acquisitions and development division.

The MIA Hotel has 252 rooms.
